Hot Running!

Yesterday I had to stay late at work so went straight to the gym for a run ... I almost ran from home but the idea of getting grief from the gnome didn't appeal as I was already tired (but as Spans says how often do you feel worse for a run?!)

Anyway I get there and it's warm (small gym minimal air con!) so I do get on the tready (no-one else is about!) and my aim was 40 mins of 5:2 R:W at about 7km ph. To my frustration as this is a small gym the damn thing is hard programmed so you can't do more than 30 mins! So I do a 5 min walking warm up, then stop and start again! The Plan then changed to the 30 mins session as the idea of faffing about with re-starting the tready again didn't appeal! (Shant have that problem soon!)

So off I went, as my runs last week were at 7 I decided to do 7.2km ph - a minimal increase in speed but an increase all the same! Set one fine! Set two slight tightness in the legs. Set three and I start to notice that my right leg (the one that got injured) is lazy! After 2 mins of plodding I feel like I am running the same then I notice the noise. I'm landing heavy, but only with the right foot! I had to actually start to think about how I was running and conciously put that foot down. I tried speeding up, 7.4 and the 7.7 for the last minute and this made it better.Then a walk and drink (it's damn hot now and any ideas of a 40 min run have well and truely gone!) Final set, again after 2 mins the right leg goes all lazy so I upped the speed to 7.4 and concerntrated hard to finish that set.

The lazy leg is not something I had noticed before -not sure if it was that I was tired (did moan earlier of feeling on the verge of a cold) or if it is really there. I will have to pay attention again next time I am on a tready!

Finished off with some stretches, went home, gave gnome a bath and got him to bed.

Later that evening I did my sit ups and leg exercises. The leg exercises are those simple abductor, adductor (think that is the right muscles!) ones were you lay you on side and raise the leg. Left leg starts to tire on 18 of 20 whereas right leg starts to tire on 12/13 of 20! I think this proves the physio's comment about the right hip area being weaker! It also highlights that I need to work on this. So maybe the right leg is lazy running???

Comments, opinions and suggestions welcomed!!

Pix - I'm going away on a holiday for a week so good luck with the tready on Saturday. I want to hear that's being put to good use. I'd hate to have to send you some visitors

{RobW turns round to see Givanni giving himself a manicure with an ice pick and Helga breaking snooker balls in her hands}

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...

An Update

Just for bear!! he-he I was very tempted just to say that but I shant!! If, like bear, you wondered where I am these days ... well mainly on Fetch and RealBuzz as I can get to both of those places during work. Unlike the old days, when I was at college and the old work place, I can't chat all day and I don't tend to go online much at home. Anyway that promised update. Good News: I won a 32" LCD TV!! I'm running 6 times a week! I'm using not wearing my HRM. I'm averaging 20m+ a week now!! Bad News: Despite lots of running I'm still err lardy because I'm comfort eating constantly. My phone is by my side 24/7 and I am expecting a call any time, to be honest I am amazed grandma is still with us, so yes I'm expecting the call, dreading the call and stuffing my face. Good job I am running lots then really! I'm worried it will become a habit though so I am trying to adjust the eating, I'm trying to bring in lots of fruit and eat that, or low fat ...
