Phew A Rest Day!

Yesterday I was knackered before it even started. A few restless nights due to being cold, alone and TOTM had started to take their toll. Wednesday is speedwork day and I knew that if I saved it for the tready at home I either wouldn' t start or would give up due to being knackered and feeling pants. So I took my kit to work.

First off I took the wrong shoes! I grabbed my off road ones. Now I did Abingdon (!!) in these so didn't think much of it. I went down the canal which is about 50:50 road and track. Today I am realising that if you were support shoes that changing and running on road does make a difference with a slight sore patch on my leg :-(

Monday's run had been fab. Friday's had been great too. So I really should not have expected speedwork to be great! It wasn't. It was really hard. It was windy and the GPS wasn't happy. At one time I was running at 59mm pace! But I did improve, 5mins later I was doing 1:59mm pace! See I'm good!!

Anyway that was another 4m in the bag in just under 50mins giving an average pace just a few seconds slower than Monday. Oh and I did a few 30secs full out efforts during which time the GPS (and I do believe it this time as it was behaving by now!) said that my average pace was less than 7:50mm pace for each one! Now I know that was only 30secs which is a LOOOOOONG way off any kind of race distance but it does show my legs can run fast! So there is hope for me after all!

Anyway today is rest day and tomorrow I run. So today I have to pop to Sainsbury to get some stuff as apparently Gnome and I are baking tomorrow night ready to see the gang on Saturday (hope we don't make them ill!!)

Now that sounds like another good run to me Pix - it may not have felt like it, and you might have had to work harder for all sorts of reasons - the point is you realised a CBA attack was coming on and you did something about it. You got out there, and you worked you little bod hard

You are right though.. it does show that your legs can run fast...!! And running faster (or slower) is a bit like driving a car. At first there are a Zillion things to think about all at the same time - but in time it becomes second nature. Your legs, and mind, are used to running at a certain pace... SO... if you can get them into the habit of running faster - by challenging them like you did here, then it follows that you will be able to run more quickly, for longer, and it wiill feel normal for you.

I think you have done really well here Pix. And there are more positives to take from this session than you realise.

I'd agree with Leon. If you can do runs like that when boarding a CBA then things ain't that bad.

To Swim or Not To Swim

That's my pondering today! Yesterday I had a bit of a headache and today I woke with the stick slightly sore "cold" like throat. Then when I was at work I felt that coldy icky yucky feeling. I've eaten now and feel better in that the icky feeling has gone but still got the head and the throat. Swimming stuff is in the car as I was planning a 40 mins pool jogging session. Now I don't know. Will see how I feel later on. I want to swim but then I also don't want to make any lurgy that I may be harbouring any worse! We'll see! So did you guess??? Yes of course I went! Well it was just me head and if I was running outside I would have run! Anyway 55mins of which 40 was pool running and then several good lengths of swimming which is starting to feel good and fitness for swimming is improving too! Now I have a stinking headache and can confirm my throat feels like crap! That may have been my last exercise for a few days :-( Other news .. I wasn't going to say...
