Yesterday, being Thursday, was gym day. Having worn my HRM on a few runs I was interested to see what it would read whilst doing a gym session. These always feel harder than my normal runs, and as such I expected to see a huge difference.
As I knew I would need a shower afterwards (the showers at the gym aren't great!), I changed at work and jogged over there. The session itself was then 10 mins on the tready (5@11mm + 5@10:30 pace inc 1% incline) then 10mins bike (5 mins easy 5mins@90rpm) and finally 10mins on the rower (2 sets of 3mins@2:20 pace 2 easy). Then a jog back to work.
I still had a slight touch of DOMS from the squats with the 5kg medicine ball but overall it wasn't a bad session. If I take the whole 45 mins then the av HR was 163 so only just over the golden 70% and looking at the individual bits only the tready was high (like 85%). So not a bad session.
Last night I went to show Gnome my dress and to my shock and horror it was no longer on the Monsoon website. As such I had no choice, I had to go shopping at lunch today to try and get it! This meant that today I also had to get up and run before work.
I staggered out of bed (having snoozed for 15mins), did the lunches then off to work. I strapped the HRM on and decided that today I would again stick to the 70% and I wasn't going to walk! Now Mr Parker says you should walk if the HRM bleeps for more than 30 seconds and so that meant I could keep going! In fact when it did bleep it took under 10seconds to drop below 160 again.
I didn't swear or shout out aloud today! (that surely must raise your HR!?!) but I did mutter almost constantly "it's not about pace or distance it's HR not pace". The result was another 2.4m run and no walking.
Whilst out I thought back to my last attempts to use my HRM and remembered that then I was told to run to a stupidly low 144. No wonder I gave up so easily before. 160 may be slow (about 14mm pace) but it's doable. I even passed some teenagers without it bleeping! Now that was brilliant! I mean sad and pathetic!
Come lunch I was ready to dash to town and joy of joys they had my dress! Even better I got the 12 not the 14 as that fitted more securely err up top! I also bought a little top too
so now I just need shoes, undies, jewellery oh and a bag! Plus somewhere else to wear my beautiful dress! Husband will have to have a posh meal for his 40th now just so I can dress up again!
I also need to get some heels to practice in as I don't have any and if I just get some for the day I will indeed fall over and look an idiot!
I fear I may be turning into a girlie! Help!
