Sorry!

Yes I've been a bad pixie and not updated for days. Sorry! I blame my inability to log onto Blogger!

So last week … Monday I had an awesome run! Loved it!
Tuesday was PT Session and Craig was late (15 mins so I'm getting and extra 30!) and he was nice to me and didn't kill me! As a result Wednesday I went out for my run full of the joys of spring and confident of another stonking run. WRONG!!

Looking at the stats it was the same a Monday, same distance and time (hey I am running to time!) and HR was similar but it felt awful. Really hard work and I was surprised it was the same distance it felt that bad.

Thursday's gym session was also hard and my calves were tight and my high from Monday had all but gone. Friday came and I was determined not to have a bad run and I didn't, I had a horrid horrid run. Slow, heavy legs and no strength and then teenagers. Big sulk and very down pixie.

Last week for a change I had actually worn my HRM. Looking back at my stats and it's a classic story from John Parker's HR training book. Monday fab run 81%, Wednesday not brilliant 80% and Friday pants awful horrid run …

This week ...

Monday I had a brilliant day out shopping in Brum for posh frock (coach's wedding) with v-rap and her 2 girls. (only ruined by a big nose bleed in Waterstones!)

Is this the Best dress?? I think so maybe possibly Oh I don't know!

Whilst with v-rap I was enlightened into the wonders of HR training and given the figure of 160. Now I've read the Parker book and it does make perfect sense, it's just I get bored trying to run to HR but as bee and v-rap both say now is an ideal time to try. Maybe I should.

Yesterday was my 3rd PT session and boy did Craig decide to be serious! 10mins warm up on the tready. Nice and easy at about 70% HR. This was then followed by some floor work split into 3 sets by 5mins of HIGH intensity CV work (80-90% HR). Loads of squats with medicine balls, lunges off and onto steps, then bridges using the gym ball. At the time my legs were killing me turning to mush within about 10mins!

This was all followed by crunches, reverse curls and planks before a nice stretch. There was NO way I was walking up the stairs to work! Just walking to work was hard enough!

By bed time I suspected DOMS would be about this morning and boy was I right! My butt is so sore! I can quiet happily say I worked my butt off yesterday! Still I got up and did my run today.

I have had my run extended to 35mins and given my chat with v-rap and bee and the state of my legs I thought a 70% HR run would be an excellent idea. BORING! If I hadn't had DOMS I would have given up within 10mins! I was literally and audibly shouting at my watch! I hardly warmed up let alone broke a sweat but I did manage to (coughs loudly) run about 90-95% of it all at a massive 14mm pace!

Off to read the Parker book to see if I can convince myself that this is, as the residence of the Cavern assure me, "a good thing" ...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Time Trial Time!

I’m very poor at pushing myself and doing speed work but recently I’ve started doing a virtual mile “race” each month and 5k too. Last weekend I got a season best on my mile at 10:50 which isn’t fast but the fastest I’ve run for way over 10 years! Today I did a speedier 5k. My last couple have been on the same “course” at home but today I was having my car MOTd so ran were I was. This meant a lot of corners and looping so I wasn’t expecting any improvement but I managed to take 5s off my time!  Ok so again not fast at 36:42 but I’m slow and fat! and I’ve been running for distance and endurance for the last few months.  My “A” race is next weekend after that I’m going to try and work on my speed. I’ll be doing a 5m race series over the winter which will hopefully help.  So I’ll using Ami’s teachings and focusing on imagining working hard to keep going when it hurts.  I won’t get to PB shape yet (well possibly not!) but I hope to take minutes off the best tim...
