Sniffle

Been to physio - NO running or impact sport for 2 weeks.
I have excessively tight calf muscles and also weak hip muscles which makes me over pronate more.
He did deep massage on my soleus and I could easily have screamed - really really painful, total agony!
So NO to Reading and Ashby.
I have to ice 3 times a day for up to 30 mins
calf stretches - 20 a day minimum holding for up to 30 seconds each
hip exercises 3 times a day
back for more pain on Friday

In 2 weeks time we will start to consider running again. If the problem still occurs then he would like and MRI (expensive) scan as the pain is very close to the tibia, but he doesn't think it is a stress fracture. Why? Well the pain after Bramley and after Friday's club run was less than the original pain.

So I can swim (less desired option as the CV work is less), cycle, use the X trainer and the stepper. Do my stretches and exercises and pilates is also excellent.

I could still go to Reading and cycle round like last year but to be honest I don't fancy a 2.5hr drive with my bike on the back and last year when I cycled round I froze and had a very sore butt!! So not sure if I will go. We'll see.

So do I benz ... have to admit that when I strecth my calves I don't get much of a stretch there.
Also I know that right hip is weaker as I've felt the muscle twinge/tighten before now
Just need to make sure I do the exercises and cross training to get to FLM in one piece!

:( I know its not much consolation but at least your have alternative training you can get on with to keep the fitness going.

2.5 hrs drive to Reading to cycle around...hmmm..one to think about.

Poor Pixie, you must be gutted to be missing both those. I hope you can find the enthusiam to keep up the non-impact training. Let's hope all is well in two weeks time.

Mitchell you are right, mum may live in Reading but the thought of 2.5hrs driving with wobbley bike on the back of the car (so I would drive slower so the drive would be longer actually) does not fill me with excitement.
Dan I am dissapointed but not surprised. Keeping the motivation up will be hard.
I intend to swim after work tonight but it is snowing and cold so don't know!!
Had to get up at 6 today to do the stretches and exercises and ice my leg for 30 mins as it is!!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Back to Square One - again

Well it feels like it!! Since my lurgy my running has been going backwards ... work has been really stressfull and the weight has been going nowhere (except my belly) Last night I was out with some of the folks which was nice (the boss paid despite the fact that work may not give him the money - grrr big gripe, shant go there!). Anyway this means I now have a large belly and today I need to start getting serious. Now I know I have said this sooo many times before but I've put on more weight over Christmas, New Year, hubby's birthday and with the lurgy preventing me working any calories off for 4 weeks I'm probably the heaviest I have been post Oliver. I'm uncomfortable and my bra is rubbing when I run meaning I have chaffs all over the place and I feel ashamed. So I MUST lose some weight, even if it is just to get back to below 11st I have to shift something. So sensible head on. Tonight is club run and I hope it will be better than the last 3 post lurgy runs ....
