So ... how's the new plan going?

Well actually it's good!
I did 2.6m walking yesterday and 3.2m today. I've also not suffered my normal "have run must eat" post run munches. This I think will be very helpful and hopefully will help break that habit!
Yesterday I decided to work out my rest heart rate, as I am useless at finding my pulse I put on my HRM and was delighted to get a reading of 48. Then for some kind or warped laugh I decided to wear it for the day! Now I only had it reading not recording so can't give you lots of stats but I did discover a few things.

Walking round the office I am nice and chilled with a HR around 100. Climbing the stairs (all 72) sees my HR shot up to 165 (and lots of heavy breathing). Driving is about 80-90. Now if I sit "normally" my HRM bleeps at me! It can't get a reading as I lean forward and slouch so much! So a HRM can also be a useful tool to help you watch your posture!

At lunch I went for my walk, the 1st part was a continual slight incline and from my "eyeball" technique of watching my HR I can advise my average HR was about 155. Base training is about 140-155 I think (MHR 206) so this is a good thing! I could even come out the other side of this with better fitness in a "base training" sort of way! Average HR for whole walk was 147 (last bit was down hill!) and I was walking a nice brisk pace of just over 15mm which is really pleasing, but I wasn't working too hard so I was able to go out today without worrying about anything other than the snow!

Whilst walking both days I have been paying much more attention to my "form". I really lean forward the whole time and swing my arms about in front of me therefore twisting! No wonder I get injured I'm a nightmare! So I took the time to think about the way I walked and what my arms were doing. In fact I soon realised that when I walk upright I actually use my butt muscles to walk! This I noticed as they suddenly said "hey we don't normally get used! What you doing?"
So all in all the last 2 days have been very productive and positive! Tomorrow I will be walking again but not so far as I have to include a visit to Tesco! My aim is 30mins of exercise a day - ideally more than once but hey once a day is a start.

Also without even thinking "I am on a diet I must eat less and east X Y and Z" I have eaten less and today I didn't even eat between meals. Maybe my head is really into this too! This is excellent news as A) I have told Spans I will give up chocolate with her for lent and B) she said she would sponsor me (with bonus if I am good!) for losing the weight! So now I have even more incentive!!

Update:
This morning I dragged myself out of bed (failed yesterday!) and I've done 30mins on my baby home stepper (2118 steps). This is for two reasons ... 1) get another lot of exercise in and 2) today's lunchtime walk will be less as I have my Tesco run to do!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi

To Swim or Not To Swim

That's my pondering today! Yesterday I had a bit of a headache and today I woke with the stick slightly sore "cold" like throat. Then when I was at work I felt that coldy icky yucky feeling. I've eaten now and feel better in that the icky feeling has gone but still got the head and the throat. Swimming stuff is in the car as I was planning a 40 mins pool jogging session. Now I don't know. Will see how I feel later on. I want to swim but then I also don't want to make any lurgy that I may be harbouring any worse! We'll see! So did you guess??? Yes of course I went! Well it was just me head and if I was running outside I would have run! Anyway 55mins of which 40 was pool running and then several good lengths of swimming which is starting to feel good and fitness for swimming is improving too! Now I have a stinking headache and can confirm my throat feels like crap! That may have been my last exercise for a few days :-( Other news .. I wasn't going to say

Gulp

I'm strangely nervous about tomorrow. I know it's only 2.5m (x2!) but there will only be a max of 50 runners per leg (only 45 teams last year I think). I'm sure my 12mm pace will be last. I have a lovely casserole (loadsa spuds!) for tea tonight and 2 glasses of wine. I'm now on the non-alcoholic fluids. The lucozade is ready to make and I'm still not sure what to wear! I was going for shorts and vest. Then capri legs and crop top/vest but I'm not sure! If I'm cold/cool I will run faster! But then I don't want to burn up and crash or freeze waiting for the start. If I wear layers will I be too hot .... blah blah blah. Help!! Still not sure what to do "gadget wise". Just watch and guess extra mileage, GPS and stop/start with each warm up, race and cool down, HRM and GPS or just HRM and watch!??!! I'm thinking that I will do leg 1 (1.5m) as a warm up leaving before the race to make sure I am ready. Then stop for some stretches and strides. Th
