Week One Gone!

Well it seems to have passed fairly quickly doesn't it, but yes we are now at the end of week one of 2007! Surprisingly I am not reporting failure left right and center! So far I have eaten more fruit and veg, run 3 times, stretched and done some abs work! I've also swum once and I will be doing a double today (morning run, afternoon swim) as Gnome wants to swim today!

This morning I have been out and done my 3rd run of the week. Three short runs see just 8.42m clocked up so this month looks like it will be short on the 40m, but consistency is the key and the last 2 years have seen a good week 1 and 2 then nothing!

Today's run was better than Friday's in that I didn't walk and the legs were less tight but was still slower than I had been running. I got up, made some tea then massaged my lower legs for 30mins. Drank my tea, changed and headed out the door.

The 201 wasn't playing ball today saying I had done 1m within 3mins! So I just ran. After Friday's effort I deliberately went slow and then slower (hence slow overall). I did almost the same route as Monday meaning the last 1+m was uphill. Not the best of routes but it's all roadwork, all very visible and there are 2 murderers on the lose in Derbyshire (hubby even suggested last night I didn't run). After a mile(ish) my legs were still tired and heavy but not as tight as Friday so I tried to pick up the pace. It was really really hard to do that but I gritted my teeth and dug in. I managed about a mile slightly faster before I dropped back to a shuffle run. But I didn't walk and that was my goal. The weather was wet and a bit windy so not great and as I headed back to the High Street I knew I had to go home. I was tired and there was no point in pushing it too much.

Once home I did some stretching and abs work, then had a nice hot bath (no ice for me!) and massaged my legs again. I think it is time I started to learn to love stretching and massage as my heel is getting that occasional bruised feeling just like this time last year and I don't want what followed now do I!

Update...

Have been to pool with Gnome, 'twas the happy splash session so lots of screaming kids with floats and ball throwing. This meant I didn't get to do many proper lengths so no distance to record just 1hr in pool! Gnome enjoyed it which is the main thing. He's not been to this pool before and it is where he will be doing his swimming lessons from next week!

Also I have been plotting and planning! When we moved 2yrs ago I put the small TV with DVD in the conservatory so I could use it for TV watching, ironing and exercise DVDs. Reality was TV watching and Gnome watching DVDs! It was in direct view of hubby's favorite chair in the lounge so prime positioning for him to rip the pish out of me! So I've moved it upstairs!. The plugs are in a better position for ironing, so I can watch my TV whilst ironing! Plus I have a door so can exercise in peace! My gym ball is there too and my mat is in the cupboard (with some light free weights) so now I can in theory at least, get my butt into gear! You know do some exercises DVDs and actually do some toning/stretching whilst watching the TV too! OK so it's just the 5 channels (and a DVD) but Gnome has his own DVD player so I can hide! Well that's the plan anyways!!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Munchtime Run

Woke up feeling "coldy" ... tender throat, tired and headache. Decided the headache was due to lack of drink the night before as I was talking to Duck for 90mins! So had some paracetomol and drink and packed my kit! My reasoning being that even if it was a cold it was not "on my chest" so no harm in running and anyway the fresh air would do my head good! Spent most of the morning feeling pants too. Headache has still there despite drink and drugs but I had my kit so off I went.1.2m in and the batteries on my GPS died! This meant it was me and the smog filled roads and my watch. As I alter my route slightly every run (so I don't compare splits!) I didn't really know the distance or pace. I did know that when I got to the Ford garage that the office was just over 1m away and I had about 13mins left when I got there. Problem was that it wasn't much further before my legs said "you are having a laugh!" and I started to flag. As I knew I was having ...
