Two Weeks In

Doesn't seem that long but yes I've not run for two whole weeks. Normally in two weeks I would have run about 18m or 6 runs and about 4hours of exercise.

Here is my 2 weeks break down:
  • Walking - 19.4m in 5hrs 12mins
  • Stepper - 12378 in 2 hrs 45mins
  • 1 swim - 1 hour

So that's 9hrs exercise or double my normal exercise. Result!

Weight has stayed stable but that's more to do with calories in rather than calories out! Posture/form has really improved in fact I think my figure is starting to reflect the improved posture. Niggle-wise I still have a few minor niggles (I wouldn't have run anyway I expect and would probably have sat on my butt). The front of my right hip has adjusted to upright walking but I still get the occasional niggle on the quad that 1st bothered me 3 weeks ago, but very minor and rare now. Calves are behaving too so all good. I have done some fizzio exercises but not too many and with the improved posture I have already noticed an improvement anyway which is a bonus!

Next week I am on a course and will be staying at mum's. In fact from Sunday this week until Sunday evening next week I will only have 1 evening meal at home. On returning back to normality I will be adding "food monitoring" to the campaign. The exercise is on track (getting more and more and working on doubles) so just need to look at calories in now. Still feeling positive which is another good thing!

Oh and now I need some advice and opinions. As Gnome is now at splash school he wants to swim more (and it's free for him now!). He also doesn't want me watching (I distract him apparently!) and the Ts & Cs say I can't leave the building, which means I can't go for a walk whilst he is swimming! I've looked into "stuff" and the gym next to work is the same group and does a corporate discount. This means I could swim at both pools and use both gyms and do classes at both for the same (ish) as I was paying for swimming alone last summer. Now the question is .... Body Balance and Body Pump? Views? Opinions? Any good? They don't have pilates but isn't body balance similar?

The good thing about this is I could swim before work when family life lets me, use the gym for 45-50mins whilst Gnome is in swimming lessons and also do a class or maybe 2 during my lunch breaks. Also there is Body Balance after work but not until 6.30 so I could swim after work and before class! Even if I just did 1 swim with Gnome and 1 gym (both at the weekend) it works out cheaper than "pay as you go" if I ignore the "admin" fee that is!!!

Anyway I won't do anything until I am back from my course (so in 2wks) so time to think about it!

So that's my review! All advice and comments, as always, welcome! Oh and Benz ... gardening is great cross training! There are Drs who do "green gym" referrals you know!! Now where are my seeds and books .... >wanders off into green hazed world<

Body Pump is great - will build muscle (equals more cals burnt) and will also help with stability. Just don't do poncey weights like a lot of women. Dino will be able to suggest some - she challenges herself!

Not done body balance - did see a bit - it's supposed to be like a combination of yoga and pilates, so sounds good - I suspect a specialist pilates instructor would have more solid knowledge though, but it sounds like a good alternative if you can't find a pilates class

it looks like non relaxing competitive yoga(blueeeeergh-but themn, i love my Yoga)

I like the sound of the green gym referrals!

Good stuff on all the exercise

hmm sounds like I should try some classes!
Benz I don;t think many GPs do the gym thing let alone the green gym thing but it is a great idea. tidy the couuntryside/parks/canals and get people in the fresh air and moving!
As for running - oddly no I haven't as yet missed it but then I have been outside most days, doing the same routes and not just strolling but power walking (today may be a stroll mind 'cos I is half asleep and in a dress!)

yes you are still getting the fresh air arent you

I think it was the ultra runner Stu Mittleman-who said that the body doesnt always know whether it is running or walking

one has to find the speed at which your body moves comfortably

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...
