Hmmmm

Well since i last spoke my bone scan report has come back clear and the Dr has said she can zap me nose to stop it bleeding!

Gnome's bedroom has been finished - great cross training for 2-4hrs each day since Sunday! He also turned 8 today so we visited Cadbury World! Yummy is all I can say!

Now for the reason behind the hmmmmmm

In Feb I had a stress fracture/reaction diagnosed by the physio and a BUPA sports consultant.

8 wks off running (loads of cycling) and I trotted round FLM in 6hrs46

After 2 weeks off I started a walk run program and things were going great!

I had an easy week the week before last as I was shattered from life. Last week wasn't much better.

This week I haven't run since sunday due to painting related activities which has proved great cross training!

Today I have noticed that the leg that was bad in Feb is iffy.

Walking home from the villiage (10mins each way) I got a slight cramp like feeling at the back of my knee on the top outside edge of the calf.

When I got home I did the general leg prodding which made me realise that there is a sore/tender/bruised and slightly puffy area on the inside of my shin again but higher up than before. My calf is still tense now where it hurt early too.

Given I haven't run for 5 days can anyone suggest what's caused this. Also I was planning a longish (6m) run tomorrow as I can't at the weekend - should I abort? And should I worry about my leg?

Any advice welcome before I stress!

i think your consultants diagnosis is crap
first he said it was a fracture-which was quickly changed when you spoke of dexa scans

maybe you need to see someone else

in the meantime-just go out for a 3 miler-se what happens

Absolutely - a gentle 'test it and see' is a great idea.

Could be all the standing in awkward positions while painting!!!!

It's hazardous is DIY!!!!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Munchtime Run

Woke up feeling "coldy" ... tender throat, tired and headache. Decided the headache was due to lack of drink the night before as I was talking to Duck for 90mins! So had some paracetomol and drink and packed my kit! My reasoning being that even if it was a cold it was not "on my chest" so no harm in running and anyway the fresh air would do my head good! Spent most of the morning feeling pants too. Headache has still there despite drink and drugs but I had my kit so off I went.1.2m in and the batteries on my GPS died! This meant it was me and the smog filled roads and my watch. As I alter my route slightly every run (so I don't compare splits!) I didn't really know the distance or pace. I did know that when I got to the Ford garage that the office was just over 1m away and I had about 13mins left when I got there. Problem was that it wasn't much further before my legs said "you are having a laugh!" and I started to flag. As I knew I was having ...
