How Not To Train!

1) Drink too much vino the night before a long run.
2) Don't drink enough water to counteract above vino.
3) Give blood two days before long run.
4) Forget to eat breakfast.
5) Run at mid day when it's hot.

Result - exhuasted pixie and probably the worst run of the year! Definatley the worst since FLM. 80mins 2-3 stops for stretching tight calves, 2-3 walked sets as HR up (err that'll be the wine!) and too hot and legs too tired so total of just 5m in 80 mins which is 5mins longer and 1m shorter than last week!

So I get home down a bottle of lucozade with a High 5 Recovery bar and take Gnome swimming! 70 mins in the pool (mainly stretching and floating for me but a bit of swimming) and Gnome finally cracks the jumping off the side of the pool from standing (without holding on) and swims a whole width. Very happy Gnome.

Very tired pixie - roast Lamb and one bottle of red tonight!

very impressed that you went for a long run just two days after giving blood.

I once went cycling the day after and was uttterly and completely drained.

Well done to Gnome - it's great when they acheive something for the first time isn't it..!

Hmm - I'm guessing... but I suspect we've all had an experience like that Pix..

We live and learn... eh..?

[Well everyone else does - i just keep on not learning]

HK yep I was kinda drained! Never noticed it before but then my sessions used to be at the beginning of the week so my body would have adjusted by the weekend i guess! Still 5m is 5m!!
Leon one day it will sink in honest!!
Gnome was most impressed with his efforts and told most of Ashby and both of my parents (30mins each!) about the event!

not to worry pixie there will be other runs. Makes you think about the body more though yeh...that was my case after celebrating Paddys day...while the day/night itself was brill, I was not good for a good while afterwards.

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Planning Ahead

Right well this is the start of my week's plan! Tomorrow I will do test run on the tready afterwork which means I can easily stop if not right. Thursday I have the Christmas play to watch! Sunday I WILL GET UP EARLY and do a 2hr run! Problem is driving along thinking about where to run isn't a good idea when it's 5:30 rush hour traffic home! I've still not got my route planned. 2hrs will be 9+m I think and I don't really want to hit the main roads, much rather potter about on the back roads and the trail, I just don't know them so don't know which roads are safe to run on! Me finks I may do a detor on the way to work tomorrow!! hehe
