Bit of this and a bit of that ....

First off today's health report!

Today I went to the chemist for cream for sore and now painful cracked toe which is apparently athlete's foot. Who's foot it is I don't know, one thing I do know it's not St Paula's even though she is out of the games due to a foot injury!!

In addition I was after eye drops. Yesterday one eye was very blood shot and partially sealed in the morning. This morning both were and I looked like I had been on an all night bender! Very red eyes and massive pupils! They were sealed in the morning and sore :-( After several doses of Optrex for Infected Eyes I am pleased to report they look soooooo much better! Just hope the toe heals as quickly!

Right back to business! Athlete in training the title says so what has the Pixie been up to today.

The original plan was an hour of pool jogging, but the eyes made me think I should just swim normally with my goggles on (or googles if your name is Caff!! hehe sorry about that!). I guessed I would look even more of a twat jogging with goggles on than I do jogging as it is!!

Anyway get to the pool and Mrs Jobsworth wont accept my card until 6 as that's when the public swim starts! Which meant that I wasn't able to be at the pool side at 6 as planned, but I'm a quick changer so 4 mins past!

I took the jogger in with me just in case as I had looked at my eyes and they already looked better. So my plan changed to 40 lengths then we will see what happens.

For some reason half the county wanted to swim. It was so crowded so when you factored in the stupid women who chat away facing each other but 6ft apart and not looking where they are going, it was bad, very bad! I ended up being brave and going into the fast peeps section just for lengths. I wasn't alone in this thinking! I did my 40lengths in 34mins so a bit slow but I was tired and could feel the lack of energy (that will be because I didn't have my normal afternoon fed up snack attack!). I was forced to stop 3-4 times, swim between people almost every length and even over took people about 6 times including 3 times in the fast section!! So yes it was a swim. Yes it was 1km, but it wasn't a happy swim as such, it didn't have that satisfactory glow.

I did however do 15mins pool jogging on top of this. One thing I learnt is that once in the pool the belt can't be seen as 2 women stopped to ask what on earth I was doing! I said I was running and they were amazed I didn't just "drop straight down!" I did keep my goggles on for this as there was lots of splashing and I didn't want to get manky chlorine rich water in my eyes!!

Back home, with tea cooked and eaten and I am actually more weary from today's session than Sunday's long swim. It did, however, show that on the day of the swimathon I will need to eat in the afternoon and take a water bottle and a sports drink to keep me going otherwise I will be very tired and suffer!

40 length is 34 mins - that's pretty good going!! how long is the pool? 25m?

yeah 25m Fraggle, I stopped for a drink (30-60secs) after each 10lengths so I know I can do it quicker but add the BSN (as bear says!) and I stood no chance!

TG I only over took peeps cos slow peeps were in the fast lane as the other area was too crowded!

Ten Week Training Block

Monday is the start of a new 10 week training block. Well Ok it's the start of my second round of The Six Pack Revolution this time I am doing the sculpt program. I did Signature in May and did really well. Lost 21lbs and rediscovered my love of running lots (rather than just running!) which has meant that I have had a great, extended, training block for my race next weekend. Problem was that at the end of the 10 weeks I slowly but surely reverted to a lot of my old habits and as such have regained 4-5lbs. Luckily my running has kept it to just 4-5lbs - I know if I hadn't been doing so many miles then it would have been more. So next week I start again, and I am trying a different mindset. Instead of seeing it as a 10 week program I am thinking of it as a 10 week training block. The say Winter miles make for Summer smiles but also the winter is a time for more indoor training! When most runners hide away a bit but do more of the stuff we should do all year as we then have an ex...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...

Time Trial Time!

I’m very poor at pushing myself and doing speed work but recently I’ve started doing a virtual mile “race” each month and 5k too. Last weekend I got a season best on my mile at 10:50 which isn’t fast but the fastest I’ve run for way over 10 years! Today I did a speedier 5k. My last couple have been on the same “course” at home but today I was having my car MOTd so ran were I was. This meant a lot of corners and looping so I wasn’t expecting any improvement but I managed to take 5s off my time!  Ok so again not fast at 36:42 but I’m slow and fat! and I’ve been running for distance and endurance for the last few months.  My “A” race is next weekend after that I’m going to try and work on my speed. I’ll be doing a 5m race series over the winter which will hopefully help.  So I’ll using Ami’s teachings and focusing on imagining working hard to keep going when it hurts.  I won’t get to PB shape yet (well possibly not!) but I hope to take minutes off the best tim...
