Back in Training Again!

Yippeee!!!

I know it's a shock to me too!! Cold is almost gone but Reading and the Swimathon are calling so I decided to give it a whirl so to speak!

I got my number for Reading the other day and read with a giggle the advice that said "If you have suffered a cold or fever in the 4 weeks leading up to the race then do not run". I assume this doesn't apply to seasoned, stubborn, birthday Pixie's!! No way I'm not running just because I've hardly run this year and have had a cold, car crash and a sore heel!!

Anyway I digress!!

This morning I woke up and felt fine! No blocked nose, no sore throat, no coughing and no nose bleeds for at least 12 hrs! So I packed my kit and off I went!

First stop the pool! Pre-work swimming as with any exercise is great for waking you up. I've now got this sussed too in that I make a cuppa tea in my travel mug before I leave home, open the lid to let it cool whilst I swim which means it's perfect for drinking and warming me up whilst I change!!

I managed 40 lengths (1Km in 35mins) this morning which was my upper goal as I had set out to do an easy 30-40 having not exercised for a week. The legs were tired but I hadn't had anything to eat for 12hrs and I suppose I have had a cold! My sinuses also felt blocked but I assumed that was my nose clip causing that!! Anyway when I got out I spent most of the time from then until getting to work blowing my nose!!

So a good start for the day! But I wasn't happy with just that! I have a half to train for! So lunchtime brought a gentle trot down the canal! The plan is to do short 30/35/40 min lunchtime trots between now and Reading and 1hr this weekend and longer next weekend.

Well I went out feeling fine and the first 1.5-1.8m was indeed fine. It was a nice steady recovery run pace. My HR was nice and low, breathing was fine and snot levels low (sorry!) and then BANG! Legs died as the energy drained totally. It was like the end of a very long run. The mind and lungs were willing but there was just no fuel there to run. I walked then ran then walked then ran. Proud that A I was on my 2nd training session and B that I was able to make myself run again however short the distance! The final result was 2.5m in 36mins with a HR av of 168 which is about 62% and proves I wasn't pushing!

So that's that! Tomorrow I have the school run so no swim but I will trot at lunchtime again. This week wil be 30mins trotting, next week 35 and then 40 the final week! I do intend to do at least 1 double to boast my fitness each week but for now I want to pop my head down on the keyboard and fall asleep!!!

well done

I am sure that swimming burns more calories than it appears - makes me much hungrier than running

maybe Will has an answer?

The Next Three Weeks

So I have a few busy weeks ahead that may, or may not, affect what happens here. So this weekend I am running the Chester metric marathon - should do about 3:30 and get a PB by around 30 mins if things go to plan. Next week I am on holiday and have the in-laws visiting which will be nice. Then after then I have 2 weeks of jury service in Derby. I really want to get a case as I am really interested in knowing what actually happens and what it's like in court. But knowing my luck I will have 2 weeks of waiting for nothing. I have Ami's zoom calls to review and take notes on, books to read, coloring/drawing to try my hand at and Loki to watch! After that the exciting news is my part time request has gone through so from 4th December I will be part time. Very exciting. Then hopefully I can start a potential path to being a swimming teacher. Fun days ahead

What Are You??

Apparently I am a geek after spending some time chatting to a first line support person and comparing degrees!! I am also apparently an executive as I earn more than a certain sum of money! This I must point out is executive in the eyes of a Midlands person and not a southern!! I think I am a runner and a mother because I run and have a son! I don't think I have a career and would struggle to define what I really do! Talking of which I may change the address for this site to blog.html or similar because if I do go job hunting I am not sure if my made ramblings should be front page news!! hehe!! I currently work in IT doing support with a hint of customer service at second line. I run and I'm trying to learn to draw! So what or who are you!?!
