Lots of Drugs and Rest ....

makes a whole load of difference!

Yesterday I stayed at home, the headache didn't go until about 3 and the 3rd lot of drugs. Woke up this morning and the headache was back but less sore, so took some paracetamol and ibuprofen together and that sent it packing fairly quickly.

This meant I was able to keep my promise and take Gnome swimming after lunch today. We've just got back! Yes another 70mins of messing about! He's starting to improve a lot and wants to swim more often which is great. I'm all for encouraging fitness! Add this to his plans of walking Hadrian's Wall with V-Rap and the kids next year and I can see a fit Gnome in the future! Another reason to lose the weight - to keep up with him!

Most of the time in the pool was messing about, with me trying to impart some wisdom on him and help him swim. Today he managed to swim both on his front and his back a whole width of the big pool without any floatation aids! Ok so he wears goggles and now (like his mother!) gets over the nose-up-water problem with a nose clip but if that gives him the confidence to get swimming then fine. He can't use the clip at school so will still have to work on breathing but we're getting there!

I was able to get a few lengths in too. I did a timed length of front crawl in 31secs! An improvement of about 10secs in these last couple of weeks of training hard! Breast stroke was 35secs which used to be nearer 45-50 when I timed before (as in before this recent swimming session so last year!) Proof that I am getting better! I'm much more confident at crawl now too! OK So I die on the end of a 2nd length but I used to die doing 1! (beams)

Finally I did 10lengths timed in 7mins 30. Last year I would be taking nearly 9mins for 10lengths! Just shows what improvements can be made with a bit of work!

I'm hoping that all this swimming is maintaining CV fitness so that when I go back to plodding I don't suffer too much! OK I know my legs will be unhappy and with Reading just over a month away I think I will be doing walk run with shorter run sets than at BM (maybe 5:1 coach??) but with the crash and the PF Reading is no longer a PB run really is it! So I will enjoy my birthday meal out and enjoy the run/day with my mates!!

Tomorrow I hope to do either a long bike ride of about 2hrs or a long swim of over 1hr.

Oh and the WW so far is going well! I haven't said anything but my tracker has been on the desk so maybe hubby has seen it and chosen not to say anything. Right ... off to have a bath with Fraggle's lovely soap to stop me smelling of a swimming pool!

Way to go Pix
:o)

And yes - you swimming will keep up your CV fitness - and once your legs get used to running again, you'll not be as far behind as you thought you were!!!

Ten Week Training Block

Monday is the start of a new 10 week training block. Well Ok it's the start of my second round of The Six Pack Revolution this time I am doing the sculpt program. I did Signature in May and did really well. Lost 21lbs and rediscovered my love of running lots (rather than just running!) which has meant that I have had a great, extended, training block for my race next weekend. Problem was that at the end of the 10 weeks I slowly but surely reverted to a lot of my old habits and as such have regained 4-5lbs. Luckily my running has kept it to just 4-5lbs - I know if I hadn't been doing so many miles then it would have been more. So next week I start again, and I am trying a different mindset. Instead of seeing it as a 10 week program I am thinking of it as a 10 week training block. The say Winter miles make for Summer smiles but also the winter is a time for more indoor training! When most runners hide away a bit but do more of the stuff we should do all year as we then have an ex...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...

The Next Three Weeks

So I have a few busy weeks ahead that may, or may not, affect what happens here. So this weekend I am running the Chester metric marathon - should do about 3:30 and get a PB by around 30 mins if things go to plan. Next week I am on holiday and have the in-laws visiting which will be nice. Then after then I have 2 weeks of jury service in Derby. I really want to get a case as I am really interested in knowing what actually happens and what it's like in court. But knowing my luck I will have 2 weeks of waiting for nothing. I have Ami's zoom calls to review and take notes on, books to read, coloring/drawing to try my hand at and Loki to watch! After that the exciting news is my part time request has gone through so from 4th December I will be part time. Very exciting. Then hopefully I can start a potential path to being a swimming teacher. Fun days ahead
