A Couple Of Updates!

Monday:
It's going to be a long week I think!
Two reasons for this ... or is it 3? Anyway, J is away this week (trope movements in France!), foot is still hurting (have a lump on the top of my foot (about the size of a 50p) and minor limp cos it hurts when my toes flex) and I'm trying to watch what I eat (failed already due to being attacked by a blueberry muffin!) especially as I am not exercising this week (think the remainder of the hall wallpaper may die!)

Bear has seen a picture of where my foot pain is and he also came up with the Morton's neuroma thing. Have read a few articles and they all mention pain on the ball of the foot but mine is the top of the foot so I am hoping that it's not that (as that needs needles and or ops!). I'm hoping it's just a tendon sprain, but the other option is a stress fracture (not again please!). In 2004 I had a tendon strain, same foot and area so I'm hoping it's just a weakness I have there. The "feels like it's been stomped on" pain is the same but I can't recall pain being so consistent.

I'm starting to think that it will still be sore at the weekend :-( and that longer rest is required. If so I will take my bike to work (they have a bike store) and do 30mins a day ish. Swimming is the other option but not practical now as the pool is in the opposite direction to work.

Tuesday:
Lots of birthdays and people moving departments and coming back from holiday so lots of nibbles about and Pixie's have no willpower :-(Grrr. Healthy eating hmmm... think my head has heard me think "reduce food" and decided to be a teenager and rebel!

Foot is possibly feeling a bit better ... followed Spans advice and massaged the bump which means I am now doing less of the half limp thing but it's still most certainly there!! Problem I do have now is that I'm the type of person who is motivated to run but other exercise doesn't have the same pull so having the pool the opposite direction and the bike hidden ... well I just don't find myself chomping at the bit to do anything about it! I guess if I knew I would be off running for a long time then that may be different as I would know I had to do something about it! Maybe just maybe it will be better for the weekend? In which case I think a week or two of walk run again to try it out (did I hurt it with my faster running with J on different terrain?). Another odd thing I have noticed about my foot today is that the actual pain/bump when examined is near the toes yet when I walk the pain I "feel" is where you would have laces on a shoe, kinda like deferred pain as such. Very odd!

You know thinking about it maybe this lack of non-running related motivation is the problem behind my change to healthier living. If I can't reduce my food intake I need to increase exercise. Now when running I manage to maintain my weight so if I could do more exercise maybe I would lose it and then maybe the desire to eat better etc would follow? Hmmm that may be another way of tackling the issue ... will look in to that I think! According to here using my stepper for 30mins every day will impact nicely on my calories so all I need to do is kick myself into using it! Perhaps with my light dumb bells too!!

Work wise I have my 1st project to be working on and have even created a UNIX script (using a template but hey it's a start!) I'm reading through 2 O'Reilly books (in HTML format) namely "Learning Vi" and "Learning the Korn Shell". So brain is working lots and life is good!

wont the stepper hurt your foot?

id be surprised if you have a stress fracture as well
you KNOW your bones are ok, and they usually occur from heavy repetitive training and lots of miles

Myabe Gnome would like to do more evening swimming-------

how about an exercise bike (or real bike) ? that wouldn't be load bearing on your foot would it?

swimming *is* the best thing to do if you can - remember how much it helped you before.

good to see your brain is being exercised too :o)

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...
