Little Steps

I've been thinking a lot lately and various things that various people have said have been revolving around my head!

FLM was always entered as a "collect the rejects" exercise, I'm still not convinced that I have a place anyway (have to wait for the magazine for that!). I've always wanted to lose weight and the recent foot injury has really kicked my butt and highlighted the importance of this. I've always wanted to be a good runner and dreamed of a GFA.

Spans said to me a while ago when I had a fleeting interest in Abingdon :
"Do you really want another 6 hour marathon?"
Leon said in a recent comment :
"One goal at time ... choose which one is most important to you....."

I went for a run today! I did 3m with J at work. It was only 1min slower than the same run some 5-6 weeks ago which I am delighted with! Foot is fine (but have a hint of blister!) but I am no where near working towards a decent half let alone a full marathon but I have the Suicide in 2 weeks and this was a really confidence building run!

At this moment in time (and I am sure I will have doubts when the magazine comes out!) I have decided to do the following:

  • If I get into FLM DEFER
  • DNS Brass Monkey
  • Lose weight
  • Improve basic fitness levels
  • Have fun
  • work on shorter runs
  • Improve speed over these shorter runs then increase distance!

I've said it before, marathon training at my current pace is hard work, takes too much time and is not a good thing for me, my body or the family. I intend to stick to my guns and do a marathon when my body is ready for it. This may be next year or 2008 or whenever, I don't know. I do know that if I am in FLM and did it I would be slow and that would take away from the joy that it FLM. I don't want to complete FLM I want to run it!

Oh and as for the shoes … I haven't bought them yet because I wanted to try a run in them and also didn't want them taunting me whilst I was injured!

Point in order....

Yes
Yes - and speak to the organisers and transfer your number to someone else (Haggis would love it I suspect, as would a Zillion other people)

All of the things you have said here will help with the LATER goal of running a decent marathon (and all the other distances too)

So stick with it

You are being watched
;o)

The Next Three Weeks

So I have a few busy weeks ahead that may, or may not, affect what happens here. So this weekend I am running the Chester metric marathon - should do about 3:30 and get a PB by around 30 mins if things go to plan. Next week I am on holiday and have the in-laws visiting which will be nice. Then after then I have 2 weeks of jury service in Derby. I really want to get a case as I am really interested in knowing what actually happens and what it's like in court. But knowing my luck I will have 2 weeks of waiting for nothing. I have Ami's zoom calls to review and take notes on, books to read, coloring/drawing to try my hand at and Loki to watch! After that the exciting news is my part time request has gone through so from 4th December I will be part time. Very exciting. Then hopefully I can start a potential path to being a swimming teacher. Fun days ahead

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...

Planning Ahead

All good plans and all that! A few weeks ago I detailed my planned races as follows: Jan - Brass Monkey Half Feb - Trail Plus Training Camp Feb - Bramley 10m (poss) April - Reading Half April - FLM Support May - Moonwalk Marafun (if I get in!) Sept - Robinhood Half Oct - Great South Run (poss) This is now Jan - Brass Monkey Half Feb - Trail Plus Training Camp April - Reading Half April - FLM Support GSR is only a vague poss now as hubby is working nights so won't get home until the early hours of Saturday so I can't leave Gnome! Which means I would have to travel down Saturday afternoon which isn't the best preparation for a race and PB attempt! So it now looks like I will need to either make this another mainly training year (not a bad thing!) or look for some local races! At this rate it won't be worth joining club in March as I will have nothing to enter and save money off entry fees!! Hey Ho and all that!! Now tomorrow ... hope to do a quick shop 1st thing (new sca...
