Weekend Wanderings

Well what a wonderful weekend!

Since Wednesday I hadn't felt 100% in fact I am still not 100% really. My food intake was down and I felt full having eaten much smaller amounts than normal.

Saturday morning was home stuff … shopping, washing etc and then I popped over to Brum to see v-rap, bear and leon. They had just been off looking at bike porn … I mean been to the bike shop and running shop!

We had some lunch and walked it off with a brisk 3m walk to Sutton runner who seemed pleased to see v-rap and leon. Had they been before then?? :-D hehe

We all came away with purchases and wandered down the road a bit further for a drink before we headed home. I was still feeling very full and had a bit of a belly ache.

Tea was soup and home made bread. Lovely bread too but I only had 1 slice and none of the Green and Blacks that was on offer (see I said I wasn't well!)

Saturday night being pre-race night was a restless "have I slept through my alarm" night with my 1st waking up at 12 midnight. Needless to say when the alarm did go off at 7:30 I was a tad tired!

Breakfast was a bowl of cereal and that made me feel stuffed again, but at least by now the belly ache had gone. Then off we went.

Once at the race we went to locate hot drinks. It was a perfectly crisp morning, slight touch of frost in places and clear blue skies.

We changed and headed for the start. We weren't quiet sure which way the start was as there was just a gaggle of people on the side of a slope! Soon we knew mind as everyone shuffled forward and I realised that I was still stood with the others and WAY ahead of myself pace wise. As we made our way through the gate I moved to the side so I could run my pace and not trip anyone up.

Within the 1st 10mins there had been 2 congestion induced walk breaks! Then we hit the slippery, sticky clay like sloppy mud. Nasty energy zapping stuff. I hated it and had to walk a lot because it just killed me! The hot chocolate I had pre-race to warm up was also reminding me why I don't normally drink pre-run!

When the route was trail or track or road and not mud I was running well as long as it wasn't an updulate! I saw Leon and the others at about half way for me. All going strong. Shortly after this my legs and body reminded me I hadn't run that far let alone off road for ages and I slowed to a shuffle and sulked. 3 people over took me and I was doing the "see it was silly to run" thing. Then we had the water splash. I had caught up with the 3 who over took me, and passed them as we climbed out. I was happy again. Cold, wet with soggy feet but happy. Then they passed me again :-(

I was trying to remember how far to go. I was very tired and slipping back. I was sure I was last now. I was walking more and more. Then I managed to stay running for more than 10ft at a time. I had a second wind and I started to think I was actually getting closer to the 2 ladies who had passed me twice already. Yes they were being slowly drawn in!!! I passed them before the stairs! YES!!! 122 stairs later and Leon is stood waiting for me! I knew I was almost home and the ladies were behind me!

As we went onto the field I looked at my watch. Nope I hadn't beaten my 2004 time … hang on I could, we started 2mins late!! I headed for the finish and YES!! A new suicide PB by 2mins!

Bear and v-rap arrived with hot chocolate and we went back to the car! Post race re-fuelling back in Brum was then a nice eat-all-you-can curry!! Then home to my boys another hot bath and bed! I was a happy but tired Pixie!

Today I have looked in Fetch and seen that my last 10K run was at home (flattish and track) 2mths ago and less than 1min faster! Very happy smiley if some what tired Pixie!

It was a fantastic day - and you did Fantastically well, hun!
Considering the enforced lack of running and the fact that it was an 'entertaining' event.... you should be really pleased with what you achieved.

Ten Week Training Block

Monday is the start of a new 10 week training block. Well Ok it's the start of my second round of The Six Pack Revolution this time I am doing the sculpt program. I did Signature in May and did really well. Lost 21lbs and rediscovered my love of running lots (rather than just running!) which has meant that I have had a great, extended, training block for my race next weekend. Problem was that at the end of the 10 weeks I slowly but surely reverted to a lot of my old habits and as such have regained 4-5lbs. Luckily my running has kept it to just 4-5lbs - I know if I hadn't been doing so many miles then it would have been more. So next week I start again, and I am trying a different mindset. Instead of seeing it as a 10 week program I am thinking of it as a 10 week training block. The say Winter miles make for Summer smiles but also the winter is a time for more indoor training! When most runners hide away a bit but do more of the stuff we should do all year as we then have an ex...

Time Trial Time!

I’m very poor at pushing myself and doing speed work but recently I’ve started doing a virtual mile “race” each month and 5k too. Last weekend I got a season best on my mile at 10:50 which isn’t fast but the fastest I’ve run for way over 10 years! Today I did a speedier 5k. My last couple have been on the same “course” at home but today I was having my car MOTd so ran were I was. This meant a lot of corners and looping so I wasn’t expecting any improvement but I managed to take 5s off my time!  Ok so again not fast at 36:42 but I’m slow and fat! and I’ve been running for distance and endurance for the last few months.  My “A” race is next weekend after that I’m going to try and work on my speed. I’ll be doing a 5m race series over the winter which will hopefully help.  So I’ll using Ami’s teachings and focusing on imagining working hard to keep going when it hurts.  I won’t get to PB shape yet (well possibly not!) but I hope to take minutes off the best tim...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...
