New Running Buddy

J may have only left Thursday but by Friday I had a new partner sorted. We ran on Monday and again today and will be out tomorrow too probably (my 1st 3 run week for months).

L is my boss (well the boss of my boss to be accurate!) and hasn't run for a few months. Before our 1st run I found out some gossip about her and this is what I now know about my new running partner.

L used to be a county cross country runner!
Her best pace is 5:15mm pace!
We did the normal 3m loop - no walking (1st run in months?) and she didn't break a sweat!

HELP!! Looks like I'm going to have to start working hard on my runs!

Diet is not brilliant but the ladies at work have decided to do a team "diet club" in January and I'm joining, because of this and the cost I may drop the WW classes and just weigh with them and follow the ww plan. One of the ladies is about my weight and wants to lose the same as me. She doesn't exercise. In January she is also off on holiday for 3wks after that I will take her on a 3m walk during 1 lunch break a week and we will then aim to introduce her to run walk and then running the Race For Life in July time. So come Feb-March time I will be running 3 times a week, walking once and doing a run walk once (working up to twice) then whatever the weekend brings!!

Still no FLM mag for me so tomorrow I will call them as the phone message says we can call from the 8th! I'm sure I have a top somewhere in the postal system for me!

Today's run was wet and windy. Wet under foot with a minimal bit of drizzle then a downpour after we had changed meaning we had to run back to the office in the driving wind and ran! Monday L ran with me, she didn't know my pace or where she was going. Today she stayed in front of me most of the time (fox and hound style!) As we reached the top of the hill at about 2m she was about 30ft in front of me but I caught up and over took before the bottom of the hill! I can do downhill running me! Needless to say she was only a few inches behind me and soon passed me again! We did the 3m loop and with the wind and tired legs (don't know why) I had to walk some of the last 1/4m but still finished 20secs quicker than Monday. I can see her pushing me to a new PB before long!

Sunday I went swimming with Gnome and he came back saying he was seriously thinking of lessons. The local pool only does lessons 3:30-6 weekdays so I am trying to find some on a Saturday morning. The pool by work does them but that is a good 30mins drive away! Still I would rather do that than him get lazy and fat! I could also go for a short run whilst he was swimming as the lessons last 30mins!

Think that's about all for now! Take care and sleep well!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Munchtime Run

Woke up feeling "coldy" ... tender throat, tired and headache. Decided the headache was due to lack of drink the night before as I was talking to Duck for 90mins! So had some paracetomol and drink and packed my kit! My reasoning being that even if it was a cold it was not "on my chest" so no harm in running and anyway the fresh air would do my head good! Spent most of the morning feeling pants too. Headache has still there despite drink and drugs but I had my kit so off I went.1.2m in and the batteries on my GPS died! This meant it was me and the smog filled roads and my watch. As I alter my route slightly every run (so I don't compare splits!) I didn't really know the distance or pace. I did know that when I got to the Ford garage that the office was just over 1m away and I had about 13mins left when I got there. Problem was that it wasn't much further before my legs said "you are having a laugh!" and I started to flag. As I knew I was having ...
