Saturday night - as predicted no sleep!
4:50 Sunday and I'm up!
Breakfast eaten and at 5.30 I decide to leave so I could get there early and put my head down! Open door and discover I need to clear some unexpected ice! Soon off and get petrol and I'm on my way! Only excitement going there was fog as there was only about 3 cars within view at any time!
Arrive at 7.50! No one there! Shock! Soon they arrive and I meet up with the normal gang plus Stump from the shorties thread.
Get ready and start planned warm up - panic left water in car. Jog back to car doing a few strides to "get blood pumping" as advised by coach. Back at start I think I have lost my phone so again back to the car. Find phone attached to back of my bum bag! Curse and back to start! Then we're off bang on time!
As instructed I run the 1st mile then walk the 1st min of each mile. Also I walked through the water stations at 3.5 and 9.5m. The 1st 5m seemed to go too quick, I even checked the distance on my GPS as I thought the markers were wrong. Mile 5 in a few seconds over the hour so 12mm pace with walks! At mile 8 I had to dash into a bush for a "comfort break!" and nearly took my head off with a branch! That lost me a minute. Struggled to get going after that.
Mile 10 by GPS said PB by 17secs and I started to work out if I could do 2:45 as I knew I had a massive PB. Mile 11 and my legs started to laugh at me! I had to walk up the now increased incline of the bridge! Who raised them I don't know but they were bigger I am sure!! Mile 12 again I walk up the bridge and there is Stump!
He "jogs" in with me having finished in 1:46 I did have to walk due to stitch but I still hoped for sub 2:45. As we got to the 13m marker I was told I could now start my race!! Watch stopped at 2:45:12 - damn bush!
GPS said 13.2m so I guess I was sub 2:45 really!
So great run, great race, fantastic marshals! Loved it!
Then after a chat with Leon I headed home. Stopped at Maccy Ds for hot food then hit the long road down the M1 home. That's when the fun started.
I'm driving within the limit in the middle lane. Twat in slow lane pulls out as I am along side of him! No indication and obviously no looking either. I swerve to avoid a collision. He carries on and is never seen again. My swerving and braking cause the back end of my car to spin in impressive style. I went right across the carriage way, smashed into the crash barriers pushing them in by a good 4ft (which is what all the damage is on the car) then span back onto the slow lane where I stopped almost facing the central reservation.
The car had almost turned over and how no-one hit me I don't know. At least 2 cars stopped. Instinct hit in, hazard lights on, start car and try to move her. Brain not working and I can't by which time two strapping lads have me out of the car, their wife's are looking after me and the car is moved.
Me gibbering wreck sat on the crash barrier. Bastard who caused it miles away.
The police were with me for 45+ mins. The ambulance men checked me over and apart from a burn from the seat belt declared me alive.
I'm off to see the Dr this afternoon for a check up. I think I am OK apart from some soreness in neck and sides and the burn. Will report back later.
So there you are. That was my day! Oh and to make things worse ... chips shop was closed! So had a 2nd Maccy Ds!!
