Grumpy Pixie

Life is just so wrong! Take some lard arse who spends all day on their butts, give them a better diet and advise them to move and they lose weight easy like.

A few weeks ago I was doing a "normal" amouont of exercise and swimming 3-4times a week and losing weight nicely.

Then I did Reading and yes granted it was also my birthday so I ate slightly more but I gained weight. This week I trained throughout the week as normal and then did a walk of almost 6hrs and again I gain weight!

To me this makes NO sense and I did start a thread on the RW forums to try and work out what the body is doing post run. It seems most people saw me mention weight and thought that was my issue. Well yes it does annoy the hell out of me and yes I am trying to lose weight but that is NOT why I asked!

When I run I listen to my body and work with it, knowing when to push and when to give up etc! You learn to work with what you have got to maximise the workout and train to the best of your ability. I figure that if I appear to gain so quickly then it must be water but why? If I know why then maybe I can work out how to help my body more! Do you follow me? Does this make sense!? I am a runner and I want to improve. If my body is reacting this way then I must be doing something wrong!

Anyway as TW means I will be doing lllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooong walks every other weekend for some time I figured there is no point in carry on at WW classes for now. So I am waiting until after TW before I go back to class. I will try to continue with the plan and hopefully lose weight with the supoprt of you lot and the forums but there is no point in paying to be made grumpy!

Anyway Today I went for a swim .... very hard work so I guess the walk is still in my body and I haven't gotten over it yet (see above comments!) Just 1km in 34:43. I will be swimming this week to allow for leg recovery from the walk and reading Anita Bean books to try and work out ho wto look after my body better!

Any help/advice/commments/reading from anyone is appreciated!

Pix - just stop stressing about it!

I'd carry on with WW as it *was* helping you wasn't it? - certainly making you more aware of what you were eating.

weigh yourself once a week (ahem! that's a "do what I say not as I do" statement there!) - as for the fluctuations - well I don't know, the body works in very mysterious ways doesn't it?

go back and re-read some of your posts from a while ago - you sounded so positive then :o)

sorry if I sounded a bit preachy there - wasn't meant to be a lecture, but just accept this as a blip and don't stress yourself over it

Pixie, Take it from someone who has battled the bulge for what seems like forever---it will get better. If you like WW, and it is working for you, don't give it up completely, it will just be that much harder to go back. Believe me.

I'm sure you know that you are replacing some of the fat you have with muscle, and that muscle weighs more than fat. In turn, muscle burns more calories per hour, which will benefit you in the long run.

I know it's easy to get discouraged, but don't give up. You will see a change again.

I think there is something about dehydration and the body retaining fluid after a long run?

Yu are in this for the long haul, so don't worry too much about week to week fluctuations - and there is always TOTM which adds another spanner in the works for me!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Planning Ahead

Right well this is the start of my week's plan! Tomorrow I will do test run on the tready afterwork which means I can easily stop if not right. Thursday I have the Christmas play to watch! Sunday I WILL GET UP EARLY and do a 2hr run! Problem is driving along thinking about where to run isn't a good idea when it's 5:30 rush hour traffic home! I've still not got my route planned. 2hrs will be 9+m I think and I don't really want to hit the main roads, much rather potter about on the back roads and the trail, I just don't know them so don't know which roads are safe to run on! Me finks I may do a detor on the way to work tomorrow!! hehe
