Wow! Munchtime Running!!

>beams foolishly<

Today I was scared! Nervous. Excited. Worried and generally wibbling. Today I would be running with the lads! Would I look like a slow fat slug? Would I be able to keep up? Prevent J from doing his thing? .... there were so many things going through my head. Part of me wanted to say I would do my own thing. Part of me said don't be daft.

I work with J. He's my team colleague and mentor and sits next to me and shows me the ropes and he's a great chap! RAF reserve (working at my place for 20yrs) and therefore fit. Best run on the 3m loop was 26mins. Then there was S (working at my place for 30yrs!) who normally does 6m in his lunch run! He plays chase and catch up.

Most of their runs include "whistlers way" which is a dis-used rail way line (not dissimilar to the Ivanhoe Way) so great for running on but not easy to pin point on the map. J was going to take me there then I could either "bimble" with him or do my own thing.

We ended up bimbling along at a pace faster than I had been running! He was happily saying how pleasant it was doing an easier run etc and I added the odd word thinking "breathe!"

It was actually a nice run! Great to have someone to chat to and also someone to kick me (or me him!) out of the door. Relaxing but hard work too. The run did J good as it was easier for him and me good to make myself work and I don't do that as a rule!

The weather was a lot warmer than I expected and I didn't have my comfort blanket i.e. runners aid bottle! J is the same! He also didn't have his and neither of us liked it! It's not so much the drinking thing it's just refreshing your mouth and adding moisture and in that heat we needed it! The heat also made me realise how hard I was working! My calves, again, had some tension ... new shoes calling me finks and my legs are still feeling the effect of my daily stair climbing sessions! So overall I was really pleased ... 2.4m in 28:48 so 12mm pace which is one of my bets runs over that distance all year! In fact I did 3m at 12:03 pace in April and prior to that it was January!!

Tomorrow J will not be running (he claims to be old and needs the rest). He wants to get back into the 2 runs at work a week thing so we will (yes we!) run again Thursday. I however may go for a shorter slower solo run tomorrow just because I can!!

Today whilst changing I saw a total of 8 or 9 other runners and J informed me that Tuesday and Thursdays are the quiet days!! S runs every day. One chap in our area runs the 7m to work and then home again every day! Looks like a healthy bunch hey! Plenty of encouragement too! Another good thing with the move!

So over all my opinion so far of the new place is Top Class! Glad I left the old place!!

Glad it's turning out so well Pix - I got the impression it would as they just seemed to treat the staff well, but you never know!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Planning Ahead

Right well this is the start of my week's plan! Tomorrow I will do test run on the tready afterwork which means I can easily stop if not right. Thursday I have the Christmas play to watch! Sunday I WILL GET UP EARLY and do a 2hr run! Problem is driving along thinking about where to run isn't a good idea when it's 5:30 rush hour traffic home! I've still not got my route planned. 2hrs will be 9+m I think and I don't really want to hit the main roads, much rather potter about on the back roads and the trail, I just don't know them so don't know which roads are safe to run on! Me finks I may do a detor on the way to work tomorrow!! hehe
