Well today the aim was to do about 10m having decided that I was in no state of fitness to complete Helsby. I could do 13.1m but it would have taken a lot out of me and my goal is London so sensible head took control.
The alarm went off at 7.30 and I dragged myself out of bed! Got dressed and downed 250ml of Locozade and 2 handfulls of dry shreddies as breakfast and pre-run fodder. Not ideal I know but I have enough blubber to burn! Having reviewed the icey paths outside I donned hat and gloves and long top and with a pocket full of energy gels and tissues I left.
2m later I realised that the "I've forgotten feeling" that I had was not my missing marbles it was my water! a slight amount of panic hit in, how would I manage? should I turn round? should I cut the run short, pop home then out again? Naturally I automatically went into "I'm soooo thirsty" mode just because I didn't have any water!
7m later I walked the last 1/2m in as a cool down (excluded from run stats) and all I could think of was "water I need water"!!
Anyway here are my stats:
So I am still about 1 min per mile slower than pre lurgy but HR is similar to pre-lurgy now. The good thing is now that although I am still slow and I haven't got the small amount of speed back that I had, my endurance is almost back!
Maybe there is hope for me! Especially as Brian from club has decided that he will be my "Harvey" from "celebrity fit club" and will push me hard!! He even thinks I will get to doing 2 lots of 2hrs club runs!! Wibble!!
Anyway son is calling!!
One final word is for Fraggle ... take care, thinking of you.

Ive to head out for my 8 miles now...best remember the water :-)
Well done!
I did the sucide without water which took 88 mins but I also knew I collapsed in v-raps arms after! I have been getting bette with water and taking just my 250ml runners aid bottle, which is just enough when using dextrose tablets (they need water), today I had the squeezy jelly sweets which seemed to work well but I could see them getting borring after another hour!! So maybe interchange with SIS gels? Something to play with!
next week is 12-14m depending on how I feel and where I can find to run as I am trying to stay on the trails (much nicer). I'm happy to plod at 13mm if needed for now and re-gain some speed at club. slower means I can do further (or so they say) HR was good at 173 but that's still 79% of max! (I'm sure my max HR s higher than 206!)
Also went swimming with Oliver and spent 1hr in the pool doing a bit of swimming and some stretches/toning to take advantage of the water!
I think it partly stems from beginning plodding in summer '03 and reading warnings about dehydration (as if, on a 20 minute run-walk!. It then became habit forming.
Trouble is once you realise you don't have any water you start to feel dry mouthed.
Now I don't take a drink on anything up to an hour.
I was taking a bottle in my belt (500ml) and swapped to the runneraid bottle (250ml) and found that regardless of the size of the bottle I still return with it half full!
I can now do shorter slower runs without water but didn't feel comfortable yesterday.
We'll see!
