Well I have to be honest I was dreading today's speedwork! I knew that 400m was a little under 3mins at 8.5km ph so therefore this would be the longest and hardest session! Which means I opted to go for 8.5km ph instead of the 9 of last week so that I did it!
5mins warm up was a bit of walking and jogging at a sedate 6.5. After this I stopped and stretched my calves out for 2-3mins as they felt very tight which made me a little concerned that this would be hard and that I would have to pay real hard attention to any niggles.
Then off I went and the calves were fine, 400m and a 2 min jog recovery at 6.5 again. Felt odd jogging and not walking but I did it. Then it was time for 600m and it's getting harder but I did it and managed to do the jog recovery. Next was the one I was dreading - 800m or approx 6mins, I knew where I had to go and went for it, talking in my head and working out how far to go. HR rose to 193 and gnome decided to join me on the exercise bike and annoy me by talking. Somehow I managed to shout at him to shut up but not sure how as I was really concerntrating on keeping going, I know if this had been outside I would have slowed down or given up by now! Needless to say I was shattered so walked the recovery!
The final 600 then 400m were again completed and followed up with a walking recovery as my legs were really tired! I was working out the distances to finish with each 0.1 of the lap being 40m so trying to visulise a finishing line and saying "come on you can keep this pace up it's only Xm away".
It worked, I did all my runs at 8.5km ph and boy did I know about that session! Scores on the board - max HR 193, total time 40mins, distance 4.36km, av HR 168.
Only snag was I then had a shower and had to do bath duty and put gnome to bed = hungry! Left over mince and pasta and 2 wholemeal pitta got eaten which was more than I would have liked, if it had been a steady run the pitta would have stayed in the freezer but I think I still kept in control for today! That's another thing - I'm starting to get over snacking and starting to control my eating and stopping the emotional (I'm bored, fed up etc) eating. Add this to the fact I am really enjoying my running and I think that the GFA in 2007 could be a real possibility! Watch this space!!
Oh and now I need my sleep ... nite!!
