Yes today was long run day and the legs just complained the whole way. I strugged a lot and kept on thinking "I'm sure it's not supposed to be this hard!"
Alarm went off at 7:20 and I was out by 7:50 into the cold cold air (it was 8 degrees at 11:30 so I'm guessing about 4-5!)
Set the GPS up and decided to do a different variation of last weeks route but in reverse to last week. I don't like to repeat routes if I can because I don't want to ruin the run by comparing times.
After a mile or so I stopped and stretched as the legs were feeling tired and tight already - not a good sign with over an hour to go! After that they felt better and I went into 40mins of solid running. The legs felt heavy but not as bad as they have been on previous aborted runs so I carried on and they did eventually ease off like 30 mins later!
I had gone out with nothing but 250ml of squash in my belly so maybe that explains the lack of energy or maybe that 1mile was still in my legs. I don't know all I do know is that this was a hard run! About half way through I started noticing tight muscles too. I can't blame the fetch 1m as the same happened last weekend only not so early in the run.
My right calf was tight (note to self - more massge on it) and the outside of my right quad was sore. Not enough to stop just a naging sorness that was better off road but still there.
Then at 3.5m the GPS battery died! So I wandered on plodding regardless gratefull for when the walk breaks were back and wondering why I had plateauxed as such and stopped at 13mm pace on long runs and why was it so hard?
I finished with a 5mins cool down before I stood in the kitchen with 1pt of lucozade recovery drink to hand whilst doing some stretches with just 6.4m done.
Then it was off for a hot bath as I was getting very cold, in fact it took over an hour to warm up. I was sat in the bath (red line on the legs as it was hot!) and I was covered in goose bumps and chilly! Not good! After the bath I massaged my legs and found the sore spot on my quad!
Breakfast was at 10:30 and then off to Sainsbury. I should now be doing the garden and my raised bed but I'm knackered! I might just chill in front of the TV 1st!
Oh and the highlight of the day .... Spans ran 62:58 at the GSR!
