Weekend Update!

Well lets see .. Friday's speedwork left me with tired legs Friday night and Saturday! This wasn't a problem though as the weekend long run was planned for Sunday anyway.

I did finally manage to pick up the wood for my raised bed but it's still wrapped up! So that will be next weekends project along with planting tonnes of bulbs! Oh and we must get some heather for the rockery etc!

Anyway back to this weekend. Saturday night I had 3 glasses of wine and so when I got up Sunday although I felt fine I decided to leave the run until later when I had had some time to consume some liquids! As it was also windy and cold I wasn't too upset! Lunchtime came and a small snack was muched through ready for 2PM run meaning I would be back in time to put the roast in!

2PM comes and Gnome wants to have a run too. We start off and he charges off in front of me, slows down as he hits the hill ... starts breathing heavy. We walk, then I suggest we walk between speed bumps. This works well for 3-4 speedbumps then it's boring. so he runs off again, down hill so it's easy ... turn the corner and we start walking (hill) starts complaining that he wanted a proper long run (!) up the hill and round the corner I say we'll run to the next junction.... off he charges, then "can we walk now".round corner and walk to next speed bump, then run for 5meters, then walk .... "I wanted a proper run not this. I like walking I can go further when I walk". get to house and sulks about having to go in and leave me! In fact he wanted to stay by the car and wait for me even when I said I would be 90mins... I had to get firm and tell him to go in and off he stropped. I had to promise he could go on the tready when I got back!

So off I trot route not that set in stone as I wanted to do a different route and knew I needed about 7m to take the 90mins and wasn't sure where to go! The Gnome thing throw me and I messed up my watch so have no proper figures. I saw the GPS would bleep at 1m but forgot to change it to auto split too! Then I pressed the wrong button and ended up doing 5-6mins instead of 3 before my 1st walk! So a pants start but I carried on and changed my route within the 1st 10 mins!!

I think I was running at about 12-12.30mm pace most of the time. I say most of the time because as I hit the middle running section (30mins no breaks) the legs pointed out Friday's speedwork! Oh and the sun had come out by now so when there was no wind it was boiling! Then I needed a wee and played hunt the bush which took about 15-20 mins! Because of my altered route I ended up finishing up and long hill (not steep just long!) and I was soooo tired! My quads were shouting but I carried on. I nearly quit but the Spans mantra "THIS WILL MAKE ME STRONG" kept me going, just!

I finished after 94mins and 7.1m with an ave HR of 175. so slow and steady but done. It was a better run than last week which was very hard and 6.5m in 90mins. So I can't complain!

Today is rest and biscuit day - blood donation. Tomorrow is rest post blood. Wednesday 50mins, Thursday 40mins including the Fetch mile (can I do a sub10mm run?) and then we see how the legs are!!

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Ten Week Training Block

Monday is the start of a new 10 week training block. Well Ok it's the start of my second round of The Six Pack Revolution this time I am doing the sculpt program. I did Signature in May and did really well. Lost 21lbs and rediscovered my love of running lots (rather than just running!) which has meant that I have had a great, extended, training block for my race next weekend. Problem was that at the end of the 10 weeks I slowly but surely reverted to a lot of my old habits and as such have regained 4-5lbs. Luckily my running has kept it to just 4-5lbs - I know if I hadn't been doing so many miles then it would have been more. So next week I start again, and I am trying a different mindset. Instead of seeing it as a 10 week program I am thinking of it as a 10 week training block. The say Winter miles make for Summer smiles but also the winter is a time for more indoor training! When most runners hide away a bit but do more of the stuff we should do all year as we then have an ex...
