Drum Roll Please!

I've been for a run!!!

Well went down the canal thinking less fumes easier breathing and with this cough thing lingering easier breathing was what I needed! It seems it was national walk down the canal smoking day and bonfire day! So every time I passed someone I got a lung full of smoke and had a splutter!

I did an unstructured walk run making sure runs were good form and therefore faster than my normal plod. My breathing was very laboured and there was a few cough splutters (Mr Swan and his 3 cygnets didn’t like me doing that!) but I wanted to be out there! I knew it wasn't going to be a good run so wasn't put off or fed up by having to walk run, the time or pace.

Still when I was running it was good … GPS foolishly thinks my runs were sub 10:30 pace best pace 8:51! LOL! So wrong! Maybe sub 11 but that’s not the point I wasn't there for pace I was there to get moving!

Anyway got out, got moving, (2.2m) and blew away some cobwebs and work stresses which was the plan.

My 5k is soon so getting moving is what it's all about.

Once that's over I will only have a matter of a week maybe two before working life changes! Because of that and my tendancy to plod I'm going to go backwards a full 4 years! I've copied the RW beginner plan which is 6weeks long. It's walk run and covers 5k. I'm going to follow that ... to the letter for 6weeks. The idea is to get out and do something when I may be tired and headachey and to actually RUN not plod. The idea is this will help break me of my plod pattern so I can start to run properly.

Sounds like an excellent plan Pix!!!

I've a bit of a theory about how to *run* and not *plod*.

So when I see you next I'll talk to you about it
:o)

good plan pix i always find that back to basics is a top way of sorting out niggles which are usually caused by doing the job poorly or too quickly
good luck with it

gosh leon is it that good you had to say it twice! Really interested to hear it now!! Roll on the 2nd!!
V-rap it's only 3 runs a week and even I can manage that I think!!

SNG I'm hoping it works! My 4yr running history has been endurance and distance and never speed so I am sooo slow! When I do try and see lower figures it's encouraging!

Let me know when you've figured out how to run rather than plod - cos I have no idea:-)

Is all better than sitting on bottom however.

Going back to basics sounds like a great plan, and you'll be great in the 5k I know (the one I'm not doing...yes I know:-))

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Munchtime Run

Woke up feeling "coldy" ... tender throat, tired and headache. Decided the headache was due to lack of drink the night before as I was talking to Duck for 90mins! So had some paracetomol and drink and packed my kit! My reasoning being that even if it was a cold it was not "on my chest" so no harm in running and anyway the fresh air would do my head good! Spent most of the morning feeling pants too. Headache has still there despite drink and drugs but I had my kit so off I went.1.2m in and the batteries on my GPS died! This meant it was me and the smog filled roads and my watch. As I alter my route slightly every run (so I don't compare splits!) I didn't really know the distance or pace. I did know that when I got to the Ford garage that the office was just over 1m away and I had about 13mins left when I got there. Problem was that it wasn't much further before my legs said "you are having a laugh!" and I started to flag. As I knew I was having ...
