Good Run/ Bad Run!

Ok so I didn't get up as early as I wanted as I had one of those "I must get up so can't sleep" nights. Anyway 5:30 was early enough thank you!

I hit the road at 5:40 and decided to take the shorter route and perhaps be a bit short on time over the longer route and be over time and pushing it to get to work on time!

Anyway where I live I hit a hill within about 30 seconds of leaving the house. I started off feeling really good and managed the hill at 12-12.30 pace, the flat at 11 pace and the downhill at 10mm pace. I'm feeling good, like a real runner and do my 1st mile (including walk breaks) in 12.06! Wow!

Anyway as I am taking the shorter route I divert off road to the nice flat clear trail that joins onto the Ivanhoe Way. Still going strong I turn a corner and stood in the middle of the 2ft wide path was Angry Daddy Swan hissing and spitting at me for daring to consider passing him and his family! I decided he would win and backed off, and followed a new path I had never been down that looked like it either followed the bottom of a field to the road or went round the lakes. 3 Failed paths later I gave up and went back from where I came from!

These paths had been covered in thick thigh high grass with brambles and nettles and were very uneven so my pace had slowed dramatically. I gave up watching the GPS! My legs were now tired too :-(

I found a further path that I hadn't been down but knew it led to the road. It started off as a nice track then returned to tall grass etc again!

Once back on the road I was struggling as my legs were shot from the hard work of off roading and after 5mins I found myself gagging at the side of the road with a pollen/grass enduced phlegm attack. Not nice but with only 1 set of running left to do I wasn't going to let it stop me!

Total time of about 50mins and 3.5m.

Got home and saw my legs were green from grass seed and pollen!

Now I'm at work and the sky is a nice blue/black/pink colour, it's raining hard and we have thunder so hopefully things will cool down!

I was planning to walk to college at lunchtime to get my new gym ball but I may opt to collect it in the car on my way home if I can!!

later that same day ....

The rain has come and boy was the sky dark, the rain heavy and the thunder loud! Needless to say no gym ball purchased :-(

One thing that has been a problem today (not sure if it is in my head or the early run) I've been wanting foooood all day! And eaten it! Hopefully it is my body saying "you've not eaten enough lately" and that's all!

Well the news is this:

Brass Monkey 1/2Marathon 22nd January 2006 - my SAE begging for an application is in the post tonight!

hehe - Mr Swan was far from happy! Odd I have never seen swans down there before today and then today I see about 5! The fisherman did't think much of me disturbing his peace either!

the fishermen I passed were still asleep in their tents!

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Munchtime Run

Woke up feeling "coldy" ... tender throat, tired and headache. Decided the headache was due to lack of drink the night before as I was talking to Duck for 90mins! So had some paracetomol and drink and packed my kit! My reasoning being that even if it was a cold it was not "on my chest" so no harm in running and anyway the fresh air would do my head good! Spent most of the morning feeling pants too. Headache has still there despite drink and drugs but I had my kit so off I went.1.2m in and the batteries on my GPS died! This meant it was me and the smog filled roads and my watch. As I alter my route slightly every run (so I don't compare splits!) I didn't really know the distance or pace. I did know that when I got to the Ford garage that the office was just over 1m away and I had about 13mins left when I got there. Problem was that it wasn't much further before my legs said "you are having a laugh!" and I started to flag. As I knew I was having ...
