After the sun comes rain

Yesterday I was delighted with my run. Full of enthusiasm and happy as larry.

Today I find my legs aren't as tired as they perhaps should have been, no aches or pains. Did I push hard enough? Could I have done better?

That's when the rain came. I started thinking (probably due to boredom at work) that I wasn't doing enough. I commit to running 4 times a week and do that without a problem, yet other areas which would impact on my running I just can't get my head around. I know I should do core muscles exercises (my back proved that) and tone (flabby belly and bingo wings) and lose some blubber. Yet my head can not stay focused or commited on these ares for more than a few days at a time. Then I realise a week/two has gone and I've done nothing.

Yesterday I did 9:49 - losing 2st would make that nearer 9 without extra training - that will in turn help with my running goals and the golden GFA. So why can't I stay focused like with the running training?

Likewise better core muscles would help - no getting tired and ending up with chaff marks on my abdomen on long runs.

The logic says it's all part of the same package so what's wrong with the practice?

Anyway today I had speedwork planned. The plan said I had 2 more runs this week and 3 days to do them in. So Speedwork it was. Home and change and on the tready. I knew straight away from the warm up that it just wasn't going to happen but I carried on - in fact I stopped after 2 sets by using the STOP button for the 1st time ever. I'm not stupid enough to force things though but I am stubborn. So when I gave up I went to a walk and upped the incline and did a total tready session of 30mins with about 15 being hill walking at 9% incline. This was then followed straight away by 10mins on the exercise bike. Felt like I had done a real hard work out and legs were shot from yesterday but I was dripping with sweat and happy.

This weekend I have a load of gardening to do as well as my long run - I will be taking care of my back and hope I don't have problems next week! Only 1 week until we are on holiday after all!

Now I will wait for the sun because as the words to the song go;

.... after the rain comes sun

Pix, it IS hard to focus aon al these thigns at the same time - just before I read this I was ruminating on the fact that I haven't done my core exercise apart from at the gym - and I could do the sit ups, press ups and glute exercises at home easily but I don't

and now I don't want to do them with the chaps around

silly or what

off to bed for an early night - and a plod in the morning - maybe followed by core stuff as well as stretching

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Sensible Head

The choice was getting wet or getting wet. I opted for the wet but warm option rather than the wet, cold and wind swept option! So 1m done at the pool including 2 goals being achieved and some board work. I said a while ago I wanted to be able to do 20 lengths non stop DONE and 10 lengths of front crawl non stop DONE!! So happy pixie. Used a different pool today as I wanted to see about lessons for Gnome. It was a nightmare to locate the car park and once I found it, it was full to the brim with cars circling for spaces so I drove the 200m down the road to the free parking and nabbed the last space there instead! The pool is old so not pretty or ponced up but it is clean and in good repair and they do Saturday lessons and Gnome can start this week! OK so he then has 2 weeks off but how good is that! My other option was the pool near work and a possible start mid February! So just need to get the OK from Gnome and a commitment to get out of bed for a 9:30 lesson every week until March (...
