Pondering ....

Problems encountered recently:

  • Sore shins through running on concrete
  • cold and wet long runs
  • colds
  • unable to run due to short lunches
  • hubby's working hours prevent runs/ club runs
  • not enough training

Possible solution .... a treadmill. It seems that Makro are selling a Carl Lewis foldable motorised tready for £200 + VAT. It's not super fast but then neither am I - it goes 7.5mph max and has 3 inclines (manual).

Now I usually say "bleurgh hate treadmills" but this would help in training and would be more cushioned and I could use it more frequently and do BT work on it (cos I'm slow!!). It could live in the garage, cool in winter and summer that way.

It's my birthday in April so I could pool money (pay now on credit card!).

So now I'm pondering and confused - do I don't I ..... advice please kind folks!!

STILL PONDERING - told hubby and he didn't say no. Leg still hurts and getting frustrated (and comfort eating), could a tready keep me on the straight and narrow training wise and help me lose weight???
I just don't know

Excellent solution - but .... I have to say, Pix that I wouldn't buy one at that price - whenever I have run cheap treadmills in hotels I have stopped after 15 minutes max - too rickety.
Certainly wouldn't buy before trying.
Read a review of treadies recently - either in Running Fitness and Runners World. I think you do have to pay quite a lot for something half decent. (I think I saw £2000 for a life fitness on ebay)

sorry not to be more positive.

and therein stands the major question! The RRP is £350 and Argos had it at £400 - now I know the gym ones are designed for mega use and would be 2k ish but ....
Oh I DON't KNOW!

Pix - Good idea but I'd listen carefully to what Beanz is saying and try before you buy. You don't want to feel that you've wasted a lot of money and get even more depressed.

Isn't Decathlon a French company or have they bought someone over here? They were quite decent when I went into one in France last year. I have also see treadies at John Lewis and one of the larger JJB/JS Sport superstores though I can't remember the price.

There are some truely wonderful people out there

just recieved this by mail from a fellow blogger. I want to share it so everyone can benefit as I have. I've wiped my tears away and I've printed this up so when I am getting sulky and down I will read this and remember .... Aim High! (how appropriate is that name!) Don't EVER think that you any any less of a runner than anyone else Kim, You show a dedication and determination that puts many people to shame. You have a goal for your marathon time which is truly amazing - and I am inspired by it..We all have our dream peaks (sorry about the mountain reference again - I'm a mountaineer too!) - and they are a reflection of who we are and what we are able to acheive - for ourselves - and anyone who can't see the value of that endeavour is blind indeed. When you run your next pb - to me that is as phenomenal an achievement as any world record..and I will bounce up and down like a mad thing at the thought of it - and I get pretty animated when I'm excited about somethi...

Remember this?

Yes I'm back on the bench :-( That sore foot thing on Wednesday... well it's still here. In typical bruised fashion it hurts more after a period of sitting down/sleep and I've been popping the brufen. There is a slight swelling too. Don't think it is laces ... on closer inspection the pain is (looks at google ... gives up and picks up "how to run injury free" instead) on the sesamoids area of the err middle phalanger (??? impressed hey!) In the same location where you would get morton's neuroma but the description is wrong so I don't think it's that!! (oh the perils of a little knowledge from a book or the web hey!) Anyways this means I'm on the bench. No running. I have 4 or 5 weeks until the Suicide Sixish so no panic, I will take 1 whole week off regardless and see what happens next weekend. Also think I will get some new shoes with more cushioning. Now all I need to do is locate my bike and/or exercise bike from the depths of the garage un...

Munchtime Run

Woke up feeling "coldy" ... tender throat, tired and headache. Decided the headache was due to lack of drink the night before as I was talking to Duck for 90mins! So had some paracetomol and drink and packed my kit! My reasoning being that even if it was a cold it was not "on my chest" so no harm in running and anyway the fresh air would do my head good! Spent most of the morning feeling pants too. Headache has still there despite drink and drugs but I had my kit so off I went.1.2m in and the batteries on my GPS died! This meant it was me and the smog filled roads and my watch. As I alter my route slightly every run (so I don't compare splits!) I didn't really know the distance or pace. I did know that when I got to the Ford garage that the office was just over 1m away and I had about 13mins left when I got there. Problem was that it wasn't much further before my legs said "you are having a laugh!" and I started to flag. As I knew I was having ...
